Fest'Agro is coming to Lavra: September 17–20

Once a year, the centre of Lavra (Largo Dr. Fernando Aroso) turns into the parish’s biggest celebration. It started in 2018, launched by a group of local residents who wanted to celebrate rural life and the area’s agricultural roots — this isn’t an event built for tourists, it’s a community festival that happens to draw visitors too. In 2023, around 30,000 people passed through over its four days.

What you’ll typically find: local food stalls, craft and smoked-meat stands, a small farm-tools museum, a livestock exhibition, themed workshops, and a stage that’s hosted names like Quim Barreiros and The Gift in past editions. There are looser traditions worth catching too — the Cãominhada (a dog walk), the blessing of the farm tools, and a parade of tractors through the parish streets. The highlight is always the closing day’s Desfolhada Popular — a genuine local tradition, not a show staged for tourists. Free entry, as always.

The detailed 2026 programme (times, acts, line-up) hasn’t been announced yet, but you can already pencil in the dates. We’ll update this post as soon as the parish council releases this year’s details.

If you’re staying with us around then, our suites are just minutes by car from the festival grounds — a good excuse to extend the trip.

For us, Fest’Agro is more than an event on the calendar. My grandfather was one of Lavra’s biggest farmers, dedicated his whole life to the land and served as president of the Cooperativa Agrícola de Matosinhos — the very same ÁGRIMA that still co-organises this festival today. This festival celebrates exactly the world he lived in: the land, the tools, the farming community that still shapes this parish today. It isn’t just a host’s recommendation; it’s a celebration of a world my grandfather helped build.
